Over the Blue Ridge Mountains into NC
After a relaxing couple days we continue our journey South and West along the blue ridge mountains into North Carolina.
As we crossed a river in Buchanan, VA we spotted a most unique footbridge. This was unlike any other bridge we had seen before. A suspension bridge with cables drawn to a center tower and a couple of rather small steel beams to support the walking surface wood boards. The link below takes you to a short video of the bridge discribed above.
After our walk about the suspension footbridge we hammered down on some back country roads up and over the the blue ridge mountains and into the Mt Airy, NC area.
We made plans to stay at a harvest host location for the night. This host is a winery/vineyard by the name of Golden Road vineyard. We were met just before sunset in their parking lot with smiling faces taking photos of Alice, excited for the colorful skoolie's arrival. Once settled in we had a wonderful wine tasting of 6 different red wines all made and blended, and most grown on premises. The wine maker and his wife were wonderful hosts. After our tasting we said good night and retired to Alice for a late dinner and some playing cards before calling it a night.
Some exploration of the area is in the schedule for tomorrow on our way out. Thanks for tuning in.
I am so happy you got on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I've been on that with grandma and grandpa on our many trips to Florida to visit my grandma and grandpa. What a beautiful road with beautiful views. I hope you were able to stop at some of the overlooks? The video doesn't seem like you ever stopped? I really hope you did and got to soak up some more of God's creation!
