Exploring Stone Mountain State Park

We had a chilly night at the winery. Cold air makes for great sleep, but not so fun to escape the blankets in the morning.

Carmen woke up early, only to find the furnace had overheated at some point in the night. Shutting itself down for safety, making it quite cold while the outside temp was only 28°F. He quickly got it fired up again and the bus nice and toasty as he cooked a hearty breakfast for the two of us and sunshine. After breakfast we packed the breakables and strapped the drawers shut. Ready to explore the area on our way to the next destination.

We hit the road headed in a Western direction, sights set for Stone Mountain State Park, NC. This park is home to a waterfall unlike any waterfall I had seen before. This water fall doesn't actually fall, it slides.

The mountain is made of solid granite rock. Creating a slide for the water to cascade over rather than and eroded cliff type falls. There many hikes available at this park for all skill levels of hikers. If you are into stairs this is the park for you! These falls are more than 200ft tall! Most of that distance is stairs.

(stairs to the bottom of the falls)

Once at the bottom of the falls, the view looking back up was breathtaking. So graceful as the water slides down the granite rock face.

And of course what goes down the stairs must come back up the stairs. So after a break for water, photos, a quick snack and some doggie exploration, we began our trek back to the top of the falls to fetch the vehicles and continue our journey.

(a view of more stairs...)

Once back on the road, we are headed toward Love valley, NC. Home to the Love Valley Music Festival thrown in the early 70's. Our destination for the night is a self sustaining homestead. Also part of harvest host.  We are excited to get some farm fresh/foraged fresh foods to take along with us.

We plan to head back into the mountains for a few days to work on inventory creation and to take in some beautiful views. Thanks for tuning in.
