Day 8 Key West, FL

Woke up to a beautiful sunny day for our first morning in Key West, FL.  It was so nice, and we had so much we wanted to do after meeting with Tie Dye Mike, we decided to splurge and spend another night here so we could have a full day of roaming around and enjoying everything this cool place has to offer.   

Had coffee by the pool this morning before heading out for brunch.


We took the free hotel shuttle down to Duval St, and went to The BC too for brunch and bloodies.

Headed to Higgs Beach to meet up with our buddy Mike and hang out in the sun for a bit.

After our time at the beach we walked towards downtown with a slight detour to the southernmost point in the continental USA.

The Southern Most house.  It’s been in the same family since 1936.

Continuing on our journey back downtown we walked from the start of US Route 1 mile 0.
We spotted some beautiful houses and trees along the wall back toward Mallory Square. Home of the Sunset celebration since the mid 60's.

We enjoyed the sunset and the celebration taking place in the square, consisting of arts and crafts vendors and performances by busking musicians and juggling unicyclists. After the sun had set we headed to the Hog's Breath Saloon for some local grub, local brews and some fun live music.
Stone crab claws, Smoked Mahi mahi dip, and Conch chowder.
Concluding our wonderful day in Key West, FL. We headed back to the hotel bar for a quick night cap and to retire to the sheets to wrap it all up.

    Wow, it looks like you found some stone crab claws for a decent price. You'll see I noted in the book that grampa took Uncle Steve, Dave and I to Joe's Stone Crab in Miami and paid over $75 for 5 claws that we split haha!!! They are quite pricey from what I understand... but you look like you were able to afford them?... what was the price there in Key West? Loving the photos wishing, I was there , just gorgeous scenery!!!

      6 crab legs for $24. Pricey but not too bad. We wanted to try them but weren’t super impressed, I like Maryland blue crab much better.

    Love all pics stay an enjoy life sunshine food an beer in the South. No rush for home. Celebrate your birthday down south instead of Cold snowy up North. ENJOY ALL AN thanks for awesome pics.

Before we head South

We plan to head south in the next couple days. Leaving the colder temperatures and threat of snow and ice behind. Each year we head south to the warmer climates, sunshine gets excited to drive back into summer.  (Sunshine wearing a stuffed mushroom hat) Before heading out we are sure to spend some extra time with family and loved ones over the last couple weeks in the Central New York area.  (family at "Illumination for Conservation Binghamton, NY) Alice is ready for a new vehicle inspection before we hit the road.  We have brought her in and been advised we have a leaky wheel seal in the rear end and it needs to be fixed in order to pass her inspection. So an appointment has been made and fastly approaching to have new wheel seals, bearings and brakes done on the back end. Upper Peninsula, Michigan

We crossed the Mackinac Bridge (pronounced Mackinaw) from the lower to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in late July 2021. This bridge is much larger than most suspension bridges beating the famous San Francisco suspension bridge in length. Making it the largest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere.  (Mackinac Bridge, between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan) The U.P. is rustic backwoods living. Many of the roads being unpaved and populated with side by side off road vehicles. Alice was a bit out of place on the hours long dirt road trips north to whitefish point and the mouth of the two hearted river, but out of place or not she got many "thumbs ups" from passing drivers and made the trip without issue.  (dirt roads of the U.P.) Whitefish point is at the top of whitefish bay, about 15 miles from the Edmund Fitzgerald wreck. South into South Carolina

We had a wonderful stay at our little camp in Western North Carolina. Relaxing by the fire, working hard on creating things, and a quick trip to to the local brewery. The Brewery is called Sidetracked and their beers served by the glass were great!! Only crowlers and growlers to go, but man what a great atmosphere.  (a view from outside Sidetracked brewing Morganton, NC) (Sidetracked brewing interior) (Thomas the "Dank" Engine, hazy IPA) We returned to Alice to relax at the campfire and fend off the ladybugs. The lady bugs love Alice! We made a couple fun videos on TikTok also.
