Day 7 Overseas Highway to Key West, FL

After a cooler (high 50°F's), calm, very buggy night for our last stay in the Everglades. We got a nice early start packing up camp and making coffee before 7am, on the road by 8am.

A few views from the Overseas Highway US 1

I believe it was a tour helicopter

Spotted a blimp too

Stone crab claws are popular down here. The claws are harvested from the creature and the rest is tossed back into the ocean to regenerate their claws and be harvested again some day, never killing the crab.

Arriving at the Doubletree Resort in Key West around 1pm, we stopped for a quick drink at the hotel bar before heading into town.

We met up with a local tie dye artist who showed us some of the Key West favorites like this bar on the wharf where we enjoyed a few beers, smoked a hand rolled cigar and listened to live music.

No open container laws in Key West, when you purchase an alcoholic beverage you are able to walk the streets, take in sights, and window shop with your tropical cocktail of choice.

One street bar we passed by was much smaller than most and boasted so.

One of the tours in the town is on this train we saw pass by.

After a decent tour and description on the area from our Buddy Tie Dye Mike. His Facebook page is Grateful Mike's Tiedyes, his website is mikeystiedyes.com check him out. The online inventory is ever changing and being updated. We returned to the hotel for a warm cookie and some rest.

Amazing chocolate oatmeal walnut cookie, free at the front desk from a little warmer every time you ask.
